Journal Entries
Journal Page Above - A sample journal page I made on March 6, 2013. I included a sketch, using Sketchbook Express (a free app), of one of my favorite coral reef fish, the Manadarinfish. I included eight interesting facts and a range map of where the fish lives from AquaMaps.com. I could have hand drawn a map, but it would have been quite challenging with Sketchbook Express, so, I opted to bring in a map rand made sure to give credit to its source. This was a lot of fun to sketch this beautiful fish. One of the keys to journaling is to find an animal that you're really interested in learning about and do a journal page dedicated JUST to that species.

- Read or skim through the information about the fish.
- Looking at the Wikipedia information, consider a species spot light and choose at least one species of fish to sketch and write interesting facts about in your journal.
- Begin thinking about how you'd like to design your journal page.
- You can look at the photographs on the given links and sketch any species you're most interested in, in your journal.
- Do at least one sketch of a specific species of marine fish in your journal. Don't worry about it being perfect. Just do your best.
- Using colored pencils, watercolor paint, or whatever media you choose, color in the fish as close to it's natural colors as you can.
- Sketch a range map of your fish from Wikipedia (or other google a map range if you can't find a map on Wikipedia) shade in the area where your fish lives on your map.
- Further Suggestions: You can decorate your page with sketches of coral or other marine vegetation from their natural environment.
- You can do more than one journal page about different species of fish. Remember, each journal page needs to be about one specific species of fish.
- Have fun!
